Apollo 7 was the first manned mission in the Apollo program, launched by NASA on October 11, 1968. The mission was commanded by Walter Schirra, with Donn Eisele and Walter Cunningham as the other crew members. The spacecraft orbited the Earth for almost 11 days, successfully testing the Apollo Command and Service Module in preparation for the lunar landing mission. The crew also conducted the first live television broadcast from orbit, allowing millions of people to watch the astronauts as they conducted experiments and performed routine tasks aboard the spacecraft. The mission was considered a major success and paved the way for the Apollo 8 mission, which orbited the Moon, and the Apollo 11 mission, which accomplished the first manned lunar landing.
