950 years ago, England had a violent rebirth as it was savagely thrust into a new era by Normandy's William the Conqueror. October 14th, 1066 marked the birth of Norman England, with half the Anglo-Saxon nobility, including King Harold, perishing in battle that day. The other half were soon displaced by a new French-speaking aristocracy. English language and culture had been indelibly altered.
