The Battles of Khalkhin Gol were the decisive engagements of the undeclared Soviet–Japanese border conflicts involving the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Japan and Manchukuo. The conflict was named after the river Khalkhin Gol, which passed through the battlefield. The conflict was waged without the Japanese government and Emperors approval. The actions where taken by a few high ranking Japanese officers who seeked glory. After this terrible defeat the Japanese shifted their focus to the south instead of Siberia. This changed Japan in WW2 dramaticly as it would honor the treaty with the USSR during operation Barborossa. If Japan invaded. Russia would have fallen to the German-Finnish-Japanese invasion.
