An abuser will often try and convince you that you're the guilty party. But oftentimes, you can see what they accuse you of in their own conduct. It's all about controlling the narrative. If they stole from you, you're blamed for theft when you get your property back. When they are nasty to you, you are called toxic for distancing yourself from them. If they beat you, you are accused of abuse for any retaliation.
