16We are now on the 10 day countdown for Warzone 2 Season 2 Feb 15th!
Warzone Season 2 will include a new Resurgence and DMZ Map, Ashika Island, new weapons and more! Information is rapidly coming out about Season 2, meaning at this point we don't have to rely on leaks anymore, with official press releases detailing what to expect.
Warzone 2 season 2 will now go live on February 15. That's a change from the previous Wednesday February 1 date stated by the current Battle Pass countdown for season 1. For now we're assuming the usual 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 6 pm BST time still stands.
There are a lot Warzone 2 Season 2 changes promised currently, as leaks and datamined info. We'll go through it all in more detail below but for now, here's what official word is from the developers. So far that includes 'new content' the return of Resurgence and "a brand new small map for Warzone 2.0". Ranked play is also promised for Modern Warfare 2, as well as new multiplayer maps, modes, weapons and "more". Changes have also been promised for the gulag, looting and loadouts, and it's already been announced that 1v1 Gulag is returning to Warzone 2, which we'll address in further detail below.
Beyond that, the developers announced a series of changes in their most recent blog, ranging from bug fixes and balances to more drastic changes.
A new Resurgence Map will be added in Warzone Season 2 - or rather, the Resurgence game mode will make a comeback with a new map to be played in: the Warzone Ashika Island map, set off the coast of Japan. Not only that, but Ashika has also been revealed that it'll pull double duty and serve as a secondary option for the DMZ, so players will apparently be able to choose into which DMZ they want to explore!
Ashika Island has had a fair amount of info revealed about it, with the map and points of interest revealed. There's Tsuki Castle, an homage to the Shipwreck map, and all manner of environments to explore.
For those who didn't play it the first time around or just want a refresher, the "Resurgence" game mode in Warzone 1 was a version of battle royale that actually allowed free and immediate respawns, and took place on much smaller maps, causing a higher frequency of combat that felt more like standard multiplayer. However, respawning took a little time, and if all of you died at once, you were officially out of the match.
It looks like there are two new Warzone 2 season 2 weapons on the way in the shape of a crossbow and potentially a Vepr-12 Shotgun. The crossbow - which appeared in the Modern Warfare 2 campaign as a secret Easter egg weapon - appears to be data mined and verified via another copyright strike. While the shotgun appears to have been outed via some attachments you can find and equip in private matches. A third weapon seems likely but nothing has been identified yet.
THE GULAG
The Gulag will return to a 1v1 mode, with the Jailer replaced by the domination system from Warzone 1
The weapon pool for the Gulag will be expanded to include Assault Rifles, SMGs and LMGs
Shotguns have been removed from the weapon pool
Victory in the Gulag will provide a larger payout and cash reward
The existing Gulag map will be altered to better suit these changes (though it's currently unclear how)
CASH, CONTRACTS AND STRONGHOLDS
The minimum amount of cash in a found pile has been increased from to $800, or $500 from cash registers
Contracts will have a smaller cash payout for successful completion
Cash will no longer be found in basic or legendary Supply Boxes
Stronghold AI damage will be changed (though not clear whether up or down)
Stronghold completion rewards will be changed (again, not clear whether for the better)
LOOT, INVENTORY MANAGEMENT AND BUY STATIONS
Loot will now drop out of ALL supply boxes and containers to be picked up manually, rather than appearing in a UI window
Medium and Large backpacks will no longer be available at all
Players who are killed will drop loose loot, rather than a backpack container with a UI window (like the containers mention above)
Buy Station spawn locations have been changed and made static
Loadout Drop Markers will have unlimited stock at Buy Stations
LOADOUTS
Customizable perks packages have been added to loadouts for players to obtain
Primary weapons will be cheaper to buy from Buy Stations
Loadout Drop Markers will also be cheaper to buy from Buy Stations
A second Loadout Drop Public Event will occur in each match, meaning players can expect drops on the first and fifth circles
ARMOR AND PLATE VESTS
Players now start with a 3-plate vest, offering greater initial protection
Varying sizes of vest will no longer be available in the loot pool
Players can now armor up WHILE sprinting through closed doorways
Armoring yourself allows for slightly faster movement than before
