It's a heartbreaking statistic, the worst in the world. Every year in Australia more than fifty children under the age of five die from drowning. That's one child EVERY week. Drowning kills more kids under five than pneumonia, leukaemia, cystic fybrosis and meningitis COMBINED. But, there's a blazing row over the solution. Laurie Lawrence says we should teach kids to swim as early as possible, but Australia's paediatricians claim Laurie's crusade offers false hope. It may even be putting children in danger (2002).
