Chapter 4 of The Curious Case of Imaginary Ernie serves as the chilling conclusion to the four original VHS tapes documenting the haunting events surrounding Imaginary Ernie. This 'conclusive' chapter delves into the aftermath of Dr. Melville’s self-immolation at the Merritt Island Children’s Ward, driven mad by the cursed "Imaginary Ernie" song. As the children, previously silent, begin singing the song in unison, a mysterious clown figure emerges from the fire, taking them in a flash of light. Detective Harlow uncovers Melville’s secret recording, revealing the connection between the deaths, suicides, and the supernatural song. Meanwhile, Father Palermo, now deeply involved in the investigation, reaches out to two cardinals from Italy — Cardinal Bertone and Cardinal Copia — who offer insight into the dark force at play. The cardinals reveal the nature of Ernie as a fiend from the Abyss and help Palermo and Harlow prepare to venture into Ernie's twisted domain. In a final act of desperation, Palermo and Harlow perform a dangerous ritual to enter the Abyss, confronting Ernie in his twisted, dreamlike realm in an effort to save the children and end the nightmare. The episode concludes with a terrifying revelation — the full extent of the Imaginary Ernie phenomenon is far more sinister and far-reaching than anyone could have imagined.
