Horus Heresy: The Opera!
With all the sibling rivalries, constant betrayals, and dark magical powers, the lives of the Primarchs make for great dramatic material.
The Death Aria of the Primarch Sanguinius for the opera 'The Death of Sanguinius'; a Warhammer 40k in-universe themed propaganda opera/oratorio based upon that pivotal moment in the lore aboard the Vengeful Spirit.
I wanted to explore what arts and culture would be like in the Imperium, and I gravitated towards the Baroque period for inspiration. In many ways I would think that all art and culture in the Imperium would naturally serve ulterior propaganda purposes, and the aesthetic of the Imperium is already very heavily based on Gothic, Baroque, and Classical motifs. Quite possibly the very idea of portraying a Primarch onstage (or traitors like Horus) would be enough for Chaos to corrupt the mind of the performer too with delusions of grandeur! This may be a banned work in this case, or perhaps the on-stage deaths are real!
The lyrics are my own creation, however the music used is not my own composition, but a rework of Handel's 'Scherza Infida' from the opera Ariodante with the words changed and virtual instruments and synths used.
