Remember when fighting games used to get boxed updates with words like "super", "ultra", or "hyper" on the front? Nowadays, it seems like none of those updates exist anymore, so this led to me going down the rabbit hole and figuring out why!

I came to the conclusion that modern-day patch culture and microtransactions are the natural evolution of the title update phenomenon, and it begs the question... How will fighting game content evolve in the future?
