The Dig | 1995 LucasArts Sci-Fi Adventure Game | Part 1 of 6
The Dig is an excellent (and underrated) science fiction themed adventure game from LucasArts. Released in 1995 and using LucasArts' Scumm engine, the game tells a story based on a concept from Steven Spielburg which sees an asteroid suddenly appears on a destructive collision course with Earth. A small team of astronauts are sent up to set explosives on the asteroid to alter its course. Upon investigating the asteroid, the astronauts discover it's actually a kind of starship which transports them across the universe to an unknown planet where they must reassemble and utilize the technology of a long dead alien race to return home.
In part one, we enjoy the introduction and take our team which consists of military commander Boston Low, reporter Maggie Robinson, and archeologist Ludger Brink out to the asteroid from our shuttle. Upon entering an opening in the asteroid, we reassemble a kind of control panel which triggers the asteroid to transport the three to an unknown planet.
