One of my favorite driving game from the Amiga - it had many ports, but the Amiga version is propably the best. It was developed by Distinctcive Software Inc (known from previous Test Drive, Stunts and later The Need For Speed) and published in 1989 by Accolade for many 8 and 16-bit platforms.

The game was build on the Grand Prix Cuircuit engine which shows. From the depiction of road, sprite cars, to overall art.

Back in my Amiga days I only played the base version (F40, 959 and Master Scenery). But as I have learned much later, the game had several add ons - 2 scenery disks - Callifornia Challenege and European Challenge and 2 car disks - The Muscle Cars and The Supercars (those were basically taken out from previous Test Drive game).

Here's my attempt at beating Porsche 959 with the Yellow Bird on the European Scenery (which is probably the most difficult).

Love how back in the day the devs just took Bill Paxton's "Game over man" audio clip from Aliens and didn't cared if 20th Century Fox will sue them (or the games were so niche back then that they were sure no one from Fox would even know about it).

Check out other racing games I covered:
