The Evil Within 2 | Chapter 2 | 4K 60FPS playthrough | No Commentary
The Evil Within 2 is a survival horror video game developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the sequel to the 2014 game, The Evil Within.
In the game, you play as Sebastian Castellanos, a former detective who is on a mission to save his daughter Lily from the clutches of the shadowy corporation Mobius. The game takes place in a twisted alternate dimension called Union, which is made up of multiple interconnected areas that players can explore.
As you make your way through the game, you'll encounter a variety of terrifying creatures and monsters, and you'll need to use a combination of stealth, combat, and puzzle-solving skills to survive. You can also upgrade your weapons and abilities using a system called Green Gel, which is earned by defeating enemies and finding hidden items throughout the game.
Review –
I loved this game. Definitely an upgrade to the first game. I would say as good as the Resident Evil 2 remake.
There are 17 chapters so it’s long game. It took me 20 hours in total on normal, which I believe is quite a long in comparison to others but I was trying to collect everything so took a lot of time exploring and killing every enemy.
I don’t normally play to collect everything but I enjoyed it so much in this game I didn’t feel like I wasted my time, like I do in a lot of games.
I wasn’t too sure about the game at first, and I thought it would be a bit of a grind but as soon as chapter 3 turned up, things turned around quickly. Chapter 3 is set in a town and you get to explore at your own leisure with very limited items and very dangerous monsters. This section is true survival horror as you are limited in ammo, health and power ups, so stealth is key to survival.
I’m not usually big on stealth but the constant feeling of dread here kept me hooked and I didn’t wanted to explore everything so that I could power myself up just that little bit more.
Character upgrades are really useful in this game too. There are hardly any which you want to ignore like you do in most games. Nearly everything is useful so it’s well worth trying to upgrade as much as possible.
There is one upgrade in particular that is super expensive and took me about 3-4 chapters of not unlocking anything else to save up for it. It’s a bullet time upgrade which does make shooting a lot easier.
Weapon upgrades are more sparce so you really have to choose your upgrades wisely. I concentrated on weapon power way more than anything else to dispense with enemies quicker and conserve ammo. I basically ignored any other upgrade like ammo capacity or reload speed as they seem like a waste of precious upgrade parts.
There is a shooting range minigame half way through the game which was really difficult when using the controller because the aiming is (intentionally) wobbly if you don’t have the upgrades. But I got around this problem by switching to mouse and keyboard, and the problem completely disappeared. The nerfed aiming wobble had been removed too.
Doing the last challenge was really hard though so I decided to save up for the bullet time upgrade. It took ages to save up for it and made completing the challenge super simple. I did it on my second try. Although the prize for doing so was a lot less than the tokens I used to get the upgrade for it in the first place.
But it was worth it because I was a completionist with this game. Unfortunately, the achievements Xbox achievements in the game didn’t work for me! I played the PC version of this game and have never had problems unlocking achievements with Gamepass but this game wouldn’t unlock any! I would have got most of them too. I tried to look for fixes online but there weren’t any. That was a massive disappointment for me and I don’t know if that’s a fault of Microsoft or Bethesda.
Although it doesn’t take away the overall experience of this game from me as I play plenty of games that don’t have achievements and I can live with that.
Overall, this is a great game and well worth playing.
