The Final Fantasy Legend (via Collection of SaGa) playthrough Part 6 Final
And with that, we push through the final area. I got a bit frustrated looking for the item... in the wrong place. Oh well. I found it, and with that was able to work my way up the rest of the tower. Went long today because I knew I was close to the end. The game has a bit of a false ending, but overall? Yea, I like it. Kinda. There's a lot on the story side, away from the combat mechanics, that is really clever and interesting. And it does have some feeling of FF1 in that you're encouraged to replay it with a different party makeup. Something that, honestly, a lot of RPGs today seem to lack. Many RPGs (not all, but many) have a set group of characters you play as and follow their story, and even if you can swap up the party later on you usually have to work a while within set parties before you get there.
This game was experimental. And I don't think it all worked. But there's some real creative sparks in here, and I can see why people enjoyed it. The fact that there's a better version out there though means I cannot recommend this one. If only Square had included the Wonderswan Color version instead, or even better, as well as this one. But we got the worst version from them, and with nothing extra - even the manual - to help fill in the game. A bit of a failure on their part. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
