Welcome to Space Run Galaxy, a unique blend of tower defense and space trader developed by Passtech Games and published by Focus Home Interactive.

In Space Run Galaxy, you are an intergalactic space trader on a quest for fame, fortune, and glory. Companies need brave runners to transport their goods across the galaxy, and you're just the man (or woman) for the job. Acquire resources, build up your ship, and hone your skills to become the best runner in the biz.

Space Run Galaxy is an interesting mix of familiar genres like 4x strategy, tower defense, and roguelike. Gameplay is divided between resource management and courier runs, where you must defend your ship against enemies who stand between you and your destination.

While docked at a station or planet, you are free to accept contracts, trade commodities, upgrade your ship, and otherwise manage the "back end" of your courier expeditions. After your pre-flight preparations are complete, you take to the skies to get your cargo where it needs to go.

Space Run Galaxy's most unique feature is its ship construction. Your ship is comprised of hexagonal nodes that you can install in any configuration you like. Each of these nodes can house a mechanism of your choosing: lasers, missiles, shield systems, thrusters, etc. The arrangement of your equipment is tantamount to efficient gameplay, and experimenting with different configuration is one of the game's primary draws. You can also adjust your ship's construction on the fly, which adds another layer of depth.

Combat takes place in real-time, and presents a fun blend of automated tower defense and manual targeting. Your weapons automatically attack targets within their field of fire, but most weapons have special abilities that you can fire manually. (This goes for defensive equipment like shield generators as well).

Overall, Space Run Galaxy is a refreshing take on some well-established genres. The gameplay is tightly balanced, the presentation is well-acted and appropriately cheesy, and there's plenty of room to expand the game with even more content. Its accessibility guises a surprising amount of depth, and I found the experience well worth my time.
