Welcome to Edge of Nowhere, a new Oculus thriller experience brought to you by Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Spyro the Dragon).

In Edge of Nowhere, you play Victor Howard, an explorer on the trail of his fiance Ava and her expedition into the frozen Antarctic wastes. Things quickly go downhill, as adventures like this often do, and your search for answers quickly spirals into a visceral quest to retain life, limb, and your sanity.

Unlike many Oculus Rift VR titles, Edge of Nowhere features a third-person viewing angle. Players operate the camera with the Oculus Rift, while controlling the player character with a traditional gamepad or mouse/keyboard.

Edge of Nowhere features a level of polish expected from a triple-A game studio like Insomniac. The environment art is impeccable, the sound design appropriately immersive, and the story well-written, if a bit generic at times. The game's art direction truly shines in its monsters and otherworldly flora, which offer the most unique elements of the gameplay experience.

I doubt Edge of Nowhere will go down in gaming history in any significant way, but it's a very competent and enjoyable example of what is possible in the world of VR. While several third-person experiences have already released for the Oculus and other virtual reality platform, none that I've played approach the polish and ease-of-use that Edge of Nowhere provides.
