GENERAL SITUATION
Motions to admit Ukraine into NATO have been met both by formal protest from neighboring Russia and by mass civil disobedience in the Crimea. The announcement of a substantial US economic assistance package has further released Ukraine from its dependence on good relations with Russia, and freed it to pursue a crackdown against the growing calls for Crimean sovereignty.

While Russian arms have been finding their way into the hands of Crimean rebels for months, the immediate conflict between the two powers is over the status of Russian military units stationed on Ukrainian soil. Although numerous ships of the Black Sea Fleet have been seized or disabled, the civilian population of Sevastopol' has assisted the local naval infantry regiment with the construction of barricades at the entrance points to the city. The southern half, along with the nearby helicopter base at Khersones, remains under Russian control for now.

YOUR TASK
A number of aircrews from the 43rd Naval Attack Aviation Regiment at Gvardeyskoe have communicated their intention to liberate as many aircraft and precision strike weapons as possible. Deprived of fuel by the Ukrainians, they will be met by an Il-78M tanker over the Black Sea before landing at Khersones to deliver their payload.

You will sweep for enemy fighters and ensure the safe arrival of the attack aircraft.

Airborne time: 22 minutes

Escorts are advised that the Su-24s may take up to an hour to refuel and land. If necessary, you are authorized to perform in-flight refuelling or multiple sorties in order to ensure the safe arrival of the group.

INTELLIGENCE BRIEF
The Ukrainians have closed Crimean airspace and instructed all Russian units to remain at their bases. The main threat is from the 62nd PVO Fighter Air Regiment stationed at Belbek, whose Su-27s have been placed on alert against violations of the no-fly order. Ukrainian Navy MiG-29s are also active, at Saki. Vega 1 reports that Kub search radars at both sites are operational.
