Is it time to panic yet?
So I wanted to use the description to elaborate on a few things from the video that I talked about. First thing, the ad-pocalypse is mostly a fun name that youtubers made up for this scenario, a more appropriate name for what's happening would be the "advertising boycott". This should give you a better sense of exactly what it is that's going on with advertisers not wanting to put advertisements on certain videos from content creators.
The main reason why people want to bail ship is because Youtube has shown that it doesn't really have too much interest in protecting it's content creators. With the faulty automatic content ID system, their lack of support/communication for creators, and now this advertising boycott, we're not given too much faith in how things keep going for youtube. From what I understand, most of these efforts are more for protecting itself from lawsuits and other shenanigans, but at the end of the day it doesn't help us.
The last thing I wanted to talk a bit more about was the whole Payday thing. Recently I've been posting and streaming a lot of Payday so it's probably not an issue for those that want it, but there will come a time when I won't be. I've played the game a lot, I have little left to do in it, and what brings me back is new content (but that in itself seems pretty lacking seeing as the game is on it's last legs and the devs are in the final stretch of supporting it). So when I say I want to create other content, that's part of the reason, but mainly I just have so much more fun when making the other stuff, like shenanigans videos. Whether it's those compliations from game playthroughs like GTAV or Fallout 4, doing derpy stuff like surviving in a corner holding up 3 guys in MGSV, or just the random things I do with friends in Battleblock Theater, Killing Floor 2, even Payday. These are the types of things I have the most fun making, and they're great to go back and watch over and over. Unfortunately they're also not the type of videos that keep this channel afloat so I don't get to do it as much as I would like to. But it's something I'd like to work towards, and that's ultimately the goal I was trying to convey.
In a nutshell, this video didn't really give a super clear distinction on any changes that are directly going to affect the channel, but moreso I hope I conveyed what I what I would like to do with this channel and the goals I have for the future of it, especially in response to the changes Youtube is going through.
