So, to give a bit of context for posterity, in my ninth grade English class our big assignment for third term was to write an argumentative essay to answer the question "Is Survival Selfish?" and peer review each other's work afterward. This was apparently one of the other students' essays that someone actually turned in.

Note: The author cites details from a bunch of seemingly random stories, but they were mostly all sources the class had been discussing for weeks. These include: Night by Elie Wiesel, An Ordinary Man by Paul Rusesabagina, How Yankel Survived the Train to Auschwitz by Eliezer Gonzalez, the Costa Concordia incident of 2012, and the Thailand Tham Luang Soccer Team incident of 2018. I still have no idea about the quicksand cave/tornado thing though.
