Season 2 episode 8 of the Bad Batch finally showed us that for which many fans have been waiting: the appearance of Emperor Palpatine as once again played by the irreplaceable Ian McDirmit.
Of course these episodes did wonders to show us Palpatine at the peak of his manipulative prowess, remaining always one step ahead of everyone else. I don’t mind saying that this arc may have been the best episodes of the Bad Batch since the premiere. As usual we had a livestream watch party and it was a visceral experience watching with all of you with chat in awe of the Emperor as he used and manipulated Rampart as the sacrificial lamb for his own bill.
Grand Admiral Thrawn has returned in star wars canon, and The Mandalorian season 2 has teased that we will likely be seeing a reinterpretation of the legends thrawn trilogy. The creators have also confirmed that this season of the Bad Batch will more directly tie Mount Tantiss to the storyline of the Mandalorian, possibly by introducing the mad Jedi Joruus C’Baoth. We already know that this facility ties to the Mandalorian as the creators have also confirmed that it is no coincidence that the symbol we see at mount tantiss is the same symbol worn by cloning expert Dr Pershing in the Mandalorian. While we don’t yet know much about Mount Tantiss in Star Wars canon, we do know enough to assert that this facility has something to do with Grogu (colloquially known as Baby Yoda), and may be the hidden reason that Grogu’s early memories of the Imperial era were clouded from Ahsoka. Will we actually get to see baby Grogu in this season of the Bad Batch? Only time will tell, but my money is on yes. Could it be because he was kept in stasis for that time, the subject of Kaminoan experiments? Could this be why he is so underdeveloped, despite being five percent through his life? For reference, giving a human an average lifespan of 80 years would put 5% of your life around the age of four and a half years old, but Grogu seems to be about half that. Almost like he should be around 30, not 50. Yes, species age differently, but Yoda told Luke that he trained Jedi for 800 years, meaning he was 100 when he took his first padawan. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think Grogu is halfway there to taking a padawan. I could be wrong, but I think he spent some time in stasis in Mount Tantiss.
