88The Horseman's Gamble is when you use the event troops from Almos Arpad to try and conquer a much bigger prize than Hungary. For example, the Byzantine empire.
Here is a step by step guide:
1. Start by switching to stewardship focus to acquire the meritocracy skill, which allows you to fabricate a claim on your lords.
2. Attack one of the weaker neighbors of the Byzantines so that you can then swear fealty to them once you have Meritocracy.
3. Next, begin fabricating a claim on the emperor. You'll need to bring down some stress by doing a hunt or having a feast.
4. While the claim is being fabricated, you should continue to raid and acquire wealth for the upcoming war. The emperor will begin to take land away from you, which is fine also as you have one county to your name.
5. Once the claim is in hand, take the prepare to cross the Carpathian's decision, then declare your claim on whoever holds the lands of Hungary. Disband the event troops and declare for the Byzantines empire.
This took me several tries, but you'll most likely succeed if you make it to this point. Once you win the war, the most challenging part will be keeping what you've taken.
