For several years now I've noticed slow color loss in my "lava lamp". It was once a nice turquoise color but it has gotten lighter and lighter over the years. The water level has also gone down slightly due to evaporation, causing some of the light from the bulb to seep out.

In this video I pop the top on the lamp and I add water and dye to make the lamp a pleasing deep blue color. I used lava lamp in quotations early because I believe this is technically called a glitter lamp. There is no wax that clumps up like a normal lava lamp, just tiny shreds of glitter like plastic. Still, it's always been known as a lava lamp to me. Note that shaking a lava lamp with wax might cause the wax to break off into many pieces, this is not an issue with mine of course.
