What is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?

The very first Legend of Zelda game to go 3D, as well as the first one that I beat on my own, over and over again when I was a kid.

Gameplay in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is very similar to the Legend of Zelda games that came before it: A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, only now, as previously stated, things are in 3D which allowed Nintendo to create all sorts of new puzzles and situations that the player would need to solve in order to beat the game, but it still plays like a traditional Legend of Zelda game: learn about the town that you're currently in's problems, get items that will enable you to enter said dungeon, go through dungeon trying to find the item that you need to beat the dungeon that you're currently in, go back and do all the puzzles that you had to put on hold for the time being, then finish the dungeon up and beat the boss, get the Spiritual Stone/Medallion, then go to the next town to repeat the process.

Graphics-wise, when the game came out all those years ago, the graphics were considered okay, naturally. If you had been a Nintendo gamer all your life up to that point, as I was, then you were blown away by them, especially if all you had played up to that point were games like Super Mario Bros., the earlier Legend of Zelda games, Pokemon, and even the third party stuff, like Secret of Mana and Dragon Quest/Warrior. Nowadays, the graphics look like crap compared to what we get, but thank God that graphics aren't everything, eh?

Music-wise, this game is a feast for the ears. I love quite a few of the tracks that are present in the game. Kokiri Forest, Zora's Domain, both Kakariko Village themes, the boss theme is okay, I like the theme of the Shadow Temple/The Bottom of the Well. Not every song in this game do I like, but most of what is here is great.

Replay value. I don't actually feel that games like this where everything is the same each playthrough has too much replay value, I'd like for the game to be a little different each time that I play through it, but there are a few things that you can do differently each playthrough. For example, why not try and do a three-heart run meaning that you can't get any Heart Containers or Pieces of Heart during that playthrough? Challenge runs do tend to make the player better at games, at least in my experience they do. Maybe I should start doing some challenge runs for this channel?

Overall, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a great game when it came out, and in my experience, it still holds up well even today. If you've never played it before, then you definitely need to give it a shot whenever you get the chance!
