The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds v1.0 (ALttP Hack) Playthrough - Finale: Final Dungeon Q2
A playthrough of a completed Zelda III romhack named, The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds. This hack was the first full hack for this game released on December 31st, 2006 by Euclid and SePH. This hack is very infamous for being very difficult and being a hard game to figure out. However there are a lot of amazing things done in this hack to make it all worth a playthrough for any Zelda Rom hack fan.
I will be using Version 1.0 of Parallel Worlds instead of Version 1.23 which makes the game easier and adds in a lot of quality of life things. I wanted to play this version instead is because I have already played through 1.23 on my own, and I wanted to see how different 1.0 really is from 1.23.
In this episode, I do a ton of things before the third and final climb of the Parallel Tower, and the Final Dungeon. The Final Dungeon is a bonus dungeon you get to go through in the second quest, and is the reason why Farore's Secret has the Fire Rod and the Ice Rod in it. Now, obviously if you're watching the Final Dungeon portion of the run you'll notice that the graphics are very messed up, and I think the reason behind that is because I was using SNES9X, so things appeared very incorrect after I fell into the hole. Typically the rooms would not look like this in v1.23, but since this version is pretty old I kinda expected the game to be messed up at some points. But anyways, we have completely beaten The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds v1.0!!!
Now, you may or may not be thinking, what are my thoughts on this game? How different is it from v1.23? Is it worth playing? Well, for one thing I can say that this version in particular is not worth playing compared to v1.23. V1.23 fixes many many things that are tedious, unfair and not fun in this version. If you want to play this game at all, do go with v1.23 because a majority of this game is the same thing, but without some of the fun things v1.23 introduces. However, v1.23 is still not flawless, and I do doubt that it will ever be flawless.
Now to give input on what my thoughts are of this game, I think that this hack is a wonderful masterpiece with flaws that can override the experience. First off, the overworld is one of the most beautiful things about this game. It can not be said enough that SePH did an amazing job with the overworld. It plays perfectly and it looks great to the point where I feel this overworld is better than the one in ALttP. Sure there's still flaws with it but those flaws are minimal compared to the dungeons.
Now, in my opinion, I think that the dungeons in this game are very fun to go through, minus Nabooru's and maybe Impa's. The rest of them though I think they are great to go through, but have some major flaws that just completely ruins the experience, and can be off-putting to people who want to play this game. For example, the Guardhouse has a lot of backtracking, the armos fight in Nayru's is very difficult - at least in v1.0, Impa's and Nabooru's are extremely confusing without a guide, etc. If the major flaws within these dungeons were fixed, I think overall this game would have been way better. Take the Guardhouse for example, if you gave the player the sword a bit earlier and reduced the backtracking I feel like it would be a way better dungeon, but I digress. Also, there are a lot of floor tile rooms which does kinda get old after a while. But I feel like overall, Euclid did a good job on the dungeons, it's just that there are many flaws that just override the experience. If the dungeons were fixed, I feel like a lot more people would enjoyed and appreciated this game.
Now, I will say one thing about this game that it has done super well, which is inspiring new people to romhack this game. A lot of people in the Zelda Hacking community nowadays got into the scene either because they wanted to hack this game, or more often than not were inspired by Parallel Worlds. It has inspired me and a lot of other people in the community, as it was bigger than any Zelda hack that released at that point. People just simply were not doing these sorts of things with this game at the time, and I have to give props to Euclid and SePH. Even nowadays Parallel Worlds is still one of the biggest hacks for this game, and it's one of the hacks that showed what you could do with Zelda 3. While it objectively wasn't the best hack of this game, I myself think that it is and every time I play it I have a lot of fun with it (especially in v1.23). But yeah anyways, that's what I really think about this game. All I have left to say is thank you Euclid and SePH for making this hell of a game.
Now then, I'm not sure what to do next for the channel, since this was a big part of this channel for a while, but I guess all good things come to an end at some point. If anything, I'll still be posting about my Zelda hacks and I'll probably start up a playthrough of another hack, but I'm not sure which one. But anyways, stay tuned for the next hack I playthrough!
