Grand Theft Auto as a series is known for many things. Being the most controversial video game franchise of all time, pushing the boundaries of what games can do narratively and technologically, being a ground-breaker and a trendsetter... But one thing many probably would not associate with this series is having a shared universe, or as it is considered these days a cinematic universe if you will. Although I hate the term cinematic universe. People who have played and beaten every game may be familiar with how much of a shared universe this franchise has. But many may not realize just how sprawling and intertwined the entire history of the franchise really is. Especially during the PS2 era, and it is a somewhat unsung quality these games have that sets them apart from their contemporaries, that happened years before shared universes were the destination for every franchise, and it's something that I find very neat, so today I wanted to take a look at the extended universe of the 3D era Grand Theft Auto games, the GTAEU.
