About the game:
The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories Waste Treatment Area is a puzzle-platformer horror video game developed by Hidetaka Suehiro's White Owls Inc. for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It was published by Arc System Works and released on 12 October 2018.
At its simplest level, The Missing is about a 19-year-old named JJ Macfield, who visits a mysterious island with her friend Emily. Shortly afterwards, Emily goes missing, and JJ sets out to look for her. It isn't long before JJ is severely injured, but manages to discover a new superpower: the ability to revive and repair her body on the spot. JJ must then explore the island and solve puzzles by repeatedly engaging in self-harm, breaking her body and damaging it and regenerating it, in order to progress. As JJ progresses through the island, she receives messages on her phone from the past and, in a few cases, the present, along with the occasional phone call. These messages from the past reveal information about her friends and mother, her relationships with them, and details of the story.
The story has many surprises, and this wiki will explain them. However, any explanation beyond this page, including character pages, is A SPOILER FILLED MINEFIELD, so if you are interested in trying this game out, it is seriously recommended you stop reading this wiki and go buy it instead. This wiki may help clear up confusion about the story, refresh the memories of those who haven't played in a while, or perhaps pique the interest of anyone who isn't planning on trying this game but is still curious what it's about.
The game is directed by Hidetaka Suehiro, a Japanese game director who goes by the nicknames "Swery" and "Swery65", who previously directed games such as Spy Fiction, Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. He is also known for checking out reviews of his work and fanmade things
