A speedrun of the arcade game The New Zealand Story, from pressing START to final GOAL IN in 8 minutes 3 seconds, a new world record time! The new trick to this route is TRIPLE HEAVEN. Normally you can only go to the Heaven special stage once per game, but if you continue, you can visit Heaven again. So, we use a total of three credits and use Heaven stages to skip 3-4, 4-4, and 5-2. This skips the very difficult mashing trick required to complete 3-4 quickly, the very difficult and spiky 4-4, and the very long maze of 5-2. In the end we defeat ZERO of the bosses - we warp past the first 2, use heaven to get past the next two, and use a death glitch to skip the final boss battle. I always think that using continues on an arcade speedrun is a little cheesy - but hey, any% means any%!

I'm pretty happy with this run - it has some minor time losses but I got great volcano RNG. I think an optimized run of this route with good RNG could possibly reach sub-8 minutes. The only other big speedup I can think of is to get the speed-up powerup on either 5-1 or 5-4 and use it to speed through the level faster (or on 5-3, but that level's already so quick that there's not much time to save). That would be a difficult route, though, both because manipulating when the item drops is hard and because the speed item makes platforming more difficult.
