The Next Big Thing In Software Architecture
What could help us to build even better, even more complex systems? What comes next? What’s on the horizon that may be the next big step? Software development is always changing. The public cloud is only 15 years old but has changed how a lot of software is developed and our assumptions of software architecture. This change in software architecture patterns makes it much easier to build all sorts of systems than before. Developers have more control but are more exposed to the complexities of concurrent programming and other things.
In this episode on the Continuous Delivery channel, Dave Farley explores an old idea who’s time may have come again. The actor model has a long history, but it has always been known to computer science, but it has been a minority player. It has lots of fantastic, valuable, properties that can make the creation of otherwise complex, distributed, systems simple. There are signs that its time may be coming for a place in the mainstream of software engineering.

Swim is an open-source Java runtime that lets you easily create an actor for each event source. Each actor continuously analyzes events and streams its insights to other actors that link to it. Swim applications run at CPU and memory speed - millions of times faster than disk - and are resilient and scalable. Check them out HERE ➡️ https://bit.ly/3s5MpvU
