During a Florida Panthers - Atlanta Thrashers hockey game, Thrasher's star player Ilya Kovalchuk scored, and Florida Panther's defensemen Keith Ballard got a little over-excited.
He tried to hit the post w/ his stick out of frustration, but missed and got his own goalie, Tomas Vokoun, square in the ear. He said he had no idea that he injured his goalie when he skated off the ice, and he is deeply sorry for his actions.
The goalie was carried off on a stretcher. He was hit in the head with his stick, cutting his left ear.
In an NHL article, Vokoun said he was OK, in great spirits other than a sore ear that required stitches.
