So...a little over ten years ago I made a dub of one of the biggest scenes for Squall, the main character from Final Fantasy VIII. It was cringe, sounded really poor from a bad quality stick mic, and I really didn't have the practice to give my voice the inflection that it needed to really carry the scene. Plus there was this really odd Solid Snake grit to the voice that I for some reason was going for...

Now, about ten more years behind a microphone have given me the comfort to redub the scene. Whether I'm actually any better or not, I'll leave that up to you all to compare.

I'll come out and say it. Final Fantasy VIII is really dumb. It's rushed near the ending. There are aspects of the story that don't work whatsoever. But it was my first Final Fantasy. And Squall was a character I felt some minor connection to (even moreso now that I've become a bit of a cynical, jaded adult with serious problems connecting to people).

This was always a really moving scene. A social hermit who has been forced into a position of leadership that he didn't want nor think himself worthy of. And yet he has to make a speech to inspire those who look up to him. Something to energize the morale of their people while they are on the brink of defeat.

So I suppose I wanted to give this scene one more shot, with the monologue rewritten and expanded slightly. Oh, and a really awesome musical remake of 'The Oath' in the background. Seriously, check it out by itself.
