The Power of Time in Video Games
I recently played through a game called Deathloop and it’s got me thinking about time. Typically, video games permit the player to progress at their own pace. You can explore a vast open world or delve deeply into a dungeon, without any fear of a timer reaching zero. Sometimes, though, developers opt to add a little more pressure. The implementation of some kind of time mechanic can affect a game in any number of ways, and is often a polarizing decision. In this video, I want to analyze how a handful of games each incorporates time differently, and what effect that has on each overall experience.
