The Problem With The Videogame Industry - Final Part, The Modern Gamer
In this concise 10 part series, I have gone over all of the major issues that plague the modern videogame industry from issues relating to Fanboyism to DLC, Microtransactions, and Season Passes to Overpriced Collector's Editions to Sequelitis and Lack of New IP to Customer/Consumer Reviews and "Professional" Review Publications to Unsustainability with Triple A Development Costs to Multiplayer Being Focused On/Prioritized Over Single Player to The Lack of Innovation with Triple A Big Budgeted Releases to Games Being Released Unfinished and Incomplete Etc.
Nevertheless, all of these issues with this industry can be traced back to one overall consistent problem, and that is simply The Modern Gamer.
The modern gamer who has been conditioned over the years thanks to anti-consumer business practices and allowing multi-million dollar companies to get away with murder is underdeveloped on an intellectual level. The modern gamer lacks basic knowledge on the industry and the products they invest in. The modern gamer chooses to rely heavily on the opinion of others to ascertain what they should invest in at any given time (Youtubers Like Angry Joe, Maximillian Dood, ACG, Easy Allies, Alanah Pearce, Kinda Funny, Skill Up, Games Radar, WorthABuy, YongYea, etc.) (Gaming Journalists From Popular Gaming Publications such as IGN, Gamespot, Gameinformer, Playstation Lifestyle, PlayStation Trophies, Kotaku, Giant Bomb, Polygon, etc.)
The modern gamer in certain online communities view themselves as "superior" to others either new to their social circle or as an outside party looking inwards regardless of the specific genre (RPG community, Open World community, Fighting community, FPS community, Live Service community, etc.) which leaves them to incapable of giving/receiving valid criticism.
The modern gamer simply lacks the basic understanding of what makes videogames a truly invigorating entertainment medium. The modern gamer IS responsible for being the consistent individual blight on this industry far more than the likes of avaricious companies such as EA, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft, Activision, and more ever could hope to be. The modern gamer is truly what's wrong with the gaming industry and I explain why in great detail in this final installment to this 10 part series.
