In my journey of cracking down the code of colors, chroma and luminosity, I gained some interesting insights by reading this article on HandPrint:

I wanted to touch upon one aspect of this - the tendency to use too much water and too little paint when painting.

This is a common factor causing paintings to seem dull, washed out and not vibrant enough.

The first step is to train ourselves to use more paint, and to do so freely and as the painting dictates, without fear of going too dark.

* One last comment I want to make regarding painting a single wash VS thin glazes is - the more you paint over a cotton paper, the more you loosen its fibers. This causes the paint to be absorbed differently, and to not show as bright and clean.
So as it turns out, it may indeed be better to place the paint in the value and color you want, immediately, and never touch it again.
