An interesting thing I found that you may have never noticed (or cared about for that matter).

I have an Analogue Mega SG upstairs in my bedroom hooked up through HDMI to my Sony Smart TV and the Mega SG has every setting for every region of Mega Drive/Genesis.

Here's how it works:

1. NTSC USA
2. NTSC Japan
3. PAL Regions International
4. PAL Regions Domestic

The 4th setting uses Japanese language with 50Hz and was only used in a few Asian countries.

My story starts like this: I was playing ''The Revenge Of Shinobi'' one day and instead of playing it on the standard PAL International setting, I decided to run it on the PAL Domestic setting. What's interesting about this game is that the language settings are tied to what region the game is ran at so PAL domestic gives you the good ending with credits and ''The Super Shinobi'' title screen instead and all at 50Hz. I originally played it on the Mega SG with my Mega EverDrive X7, I saved the game play right towards the end of the game after defeating the final boss on the X7 and took the cart downstairs and booted it up on my stock PAL SEGA Mega Drive model 1 console which has no modding to it, no language custom made switches or 50/60Hz switches, everything has to be run at standard 50Hz in PAL.

As you can see in the video, loading up the save state automatically tricks the Mega Drive into displaying the Japanese language settings with 50Hz and shows the ending with credits and ''The Super Shinobi'' title screen. This unfortunately can only be done by using a Mega SG first on the PAL Domestic setting on a flash cart with save state ability and then running the cart on a standard PAL Mega Drive console at 50Hz. I dare say this procedure would probably work for an NTSC Genesis if the Mega SG was first set to Japan NTSC saved and then played on an NTSC Genesis in 60Hz.

It's the cheaper, sneakier way to play ''The Super Shinobi'' on your system of choice without owning a Japanese Mega Drive.

I was originally planning on adding in me talking and explaining over the audio about this trick but my kids make the lounge room pretty hectic for those kinds of videos these days that have me doing audio commentary over the video as they make so much noise.

NOTE: Sonic The Hedgehog was booted just to prove the console was running at 50Hz, although i'm sure the borders on ''The Super Shinobi'' could give it away.

Enjoy!
