There's a plane crash after an "anomaly" (which, we presume, is the rocket launching a nanite swarm into the atmosphere at the end of The Surge 1). Two months later, we--playing a corporate middle manager--wake up in a hospital, having visions of a young girl named Athena from the plane. We have to find her. It's not weird at all. Really. The hospital is actually a prison. There's a riot. We break out and get lost immediately. But eventually we find a "rig," the thing that gives us video game superpowers, and we also help infamous intercom voice guy Benjamin Burke from Central Production B (see: previous game). We kill a lot of prisoners who probably deserve it probably, and two tutorial warden bosses to the accompaniment of some hardcore electronic numetal music, because, as a corporate middle manager and video game protagonist, we are an expert in all forms of deadly combat. Except we're not very good at the new gesture-based blocking moves in The Surge 2 and need a lot of practice. We learn that we're trapped in Jericho City, which is affected by a "deadly nanite plague," so everything's turned into a dystopian post-apocalyptic nightmare. 5/21/2021.
