Budding young composer Cameron Lee Simpson asked if I would compose a third strain for a rag he was writing. I also re-wrote the ending to the first strain and suggested a change to the second strain. I added a more grandiose reprise of the second strain to conclude the piece.
I gave the sheet music to Kylan the night before this while chatting during after-hours at the West Coast Ragtime Festival. He didn't get a chance to play through it, but decided he'd give it a go during his Sunday morning set, as Sunday sets often are treated a bit loose and experimental anyway and the piece isn't terribly complex so he felt confident he could sight-read it without much difficulty. He did a fine job!
