That's literally true of Faxanadu, where you can't go back to earlier towns one you've completed the next major leg of your quest, which is such a bummer because all of the items are cheaper back there! But it's also true in a metaphorical sense, because we can't recreate the conditions that made the first part of this stream series a viral sensation!
We're going back to the third of three springs to open up a fountain and a way forward! Which required some backtracking, so I guess you can go back again after all. A little bit, anyway.
