Theoretically, we should all be happy to let go of everything, and be free of all our troubles. However, not only do we fail to let go, but we also find new ways to cling to our burdens.

It is evident that comparison, deeply rooted in our identity, plays a significant role in this attachment. Consequently, the question of letting go and the question of comparison seem to be connected at the same fundamental level, which is the image.

With this in mind, we can return to the question of letting go and examine who or what it is that refuses to let go or insists on holding on.

This inquiry presents us with an image, and by image, I mean the sense of significance surrounding our presence, existence, and meaning, rather than the thing itself.

Consider a house that you've invested in over many years, perhaps even inheriting or planning to inherit it. You've filled it with possessions and experienced countless memories within its walls. Then, one day, it is reduced to ashes by a fire. There is no doubt that the house no longer exists, yet the sense of significance remains within you. The house still endures in the form of an image.

We are left with a stark and uncompromising realization: as long as the image poses the question of letting go, it also provides answers or excuses for why it cannot let go. Can there be a question of letting go that is not driven by the image but instead arises as an invitation from something that is beyond our imagination?
