The Way of Kings sounded great on paper when the devs asked me if I wanted to review it. Unfortunately there are some glaring issues with the experience.

For starters. I've been informed that the game will launch at $10.99. The experience is currently about 15 minutes long. That gameplay per $ just isn't very good and what is there doesn't hold up to something like The Gallery which offers a similar experience only on a much larger scale.

Both of The Gallery games, Call of the Starseed and Heart of the Emberstone clock in at around 2-3+ hours depending on how quickly you move through the story and are priced at 19:99 and 29:99 respectively with Emberstone being a bit longer.

Based on that, I would have expected a 10.99 story based adventure/experience to clock in at around an hour or so worth of gameplay. We got 15 minutes. This could probably be shortened fairly easily to under 10 minutes. The price is just idiotic. Not only for the amount of content but also with the way Steam refunds work, you could just pay, play the whole thing up to 10 times and then still refund the game! I don't understand this choice.

My other major issue with the game is that there is a part in the middle where the devs pick you up and shift your camera from you standing on the ground to you walking on the wall. As you walk on the wall, your camera shifts orientation even more.

This will make you sick. Even if you are the most hardened of VR vet, this will still make you uncomfortable. This is VR Dev 101, day 1, do not do stuff. The could have easily pulled you out of your body and watched as your avatar went through the cinematic motion of learning to walk on walls and then blink teleported you into the new position without any discomfort and still achieving that cinematic scene. Unfortunately they chose to make their playerbase sick instead.

So my main takeaway is that you get to be overcharged for almost no content and you get to walk away with VR sickness that for some people can last hours... I just can't recommend this.
