After looking at hundreds of builds, both my own and those submitted by you all, I have noticed the leading factor of homes appearing empty is the 3x3 space. There is no psychology or official study behind this, it's just a constant observation that has been found to be true more times than not. Of course sometimes you want your build to feel spacious and empty, so in that case trying to plan these spaces can really help achieve that look.
