1) Other than static encounters, the first wild Pokémon encounter in any new location/route is the only Pokémon a player is allowed to attempt to capture.
2) Both players must catch their encounter or neither player may keep their Pokémon. If successful, a link is created between the two mons.
- If either of our Pokémon faints, both they, and the Pokémon it is linked to, is gone forever.
3) The linked Pokémon may not have the same primary typing.
(Pidgey and Gyarados is an acceptable link because Flying is Pidgey's primary typing and Gyarados's secondary typing.)

Nicknames required
Shiny Pokémon are exceptions to first encounter rules. They are always allowed to be caught.
Duplicate clause. - if a player already has a Pokémon they are allowed to re-roll the encounter to attempt to catch a different Pokémon.
