the online RPG " Final Fantasy XIV " (FFXIV), will be released in late March 2025. Patch 7.2 "Seekers of Eternity", the latest major update for
The patch series starting with patch 7.2 will implement a number of new contents, including a new main quest, the second raid in Golden Legacy, "Arcadia: Cruiser Class," the third field exploration content, "Crescent Isle: Mirage Island," and large-scale life-related content, "Cosmo Explorer."
In this article, we bring you an interview with FFXIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida ahead of the release of patch 7.2. We asked him about the highlights of the new content and the details of the updates.
The 86th Producer Letter LIVE (PLL) is scheduled to air on March 14th. As part of Part 2 of the special feature on the content implemented in Patch 7.2, the latest information including actual gameplay will be released. Be sure to check it out along with this interview.
A portrait of "Another Far-Away Future" has also been confirmed!
--Before we talk about patch 7.2, patch 7.1 added the new alliance raid "Echoes of Vana'diel" and the new battle content "Cloud of Sinners' Fierce Battle." First, please give us a look back at patch 7.1.
Yoshida
Regarding "Echoes of Vana'diel," I had the chance to speak with Fujito (Yoji Fujito, FFXI producer and director) the other day, and he told me that originally some FFXI players had expressed the desire to see Vana'diel rendered with current graphics, and that he was "really grateful that we were able to respond to that request."
After the implementation, attention was focused on FFXI, and we could clearly see the impact in terms of numbers such as the number of players. We on the FFXIV team are also very relieved to receive such a positive response from players.
the previous interview As I mentioned in , some FFXI players have various feelings about FFXIV . Because of this, I was not able to take the plunge until now, but I am glad that I created the content "Echoes of Vana'diel". The development team is already working hard to create the second and third installments, so I hope you will look forward to them!
--As someone who also plays FFXI, I was really impressed with the graphics, the battles, and the implementation of the lower levels of Jeuno.
Yoshida
I'm happiest to hear you say that. In the second and third volumes, we'll be able to see more of the good parts of the character Prische, and when the story is complete, I think more people will be interested in trying out FFXI, so I hope we can help boost both FFXI and FFXIV.

--How did you feel about the fierce battle against the Cloud of Darkness?
Yoshida
With the 6.x series, we were able to firmly establish, including through system development, that "although it is an MMORPG, it can be enjoyed even by yourself." On the other hand, the major policy for the 7.x series is once again "to make it even more fun when played together." The first step in this concept is the new battle content, "Destruction."
In the major update of x.1 after the release of the expansion pack, the content volume tends to be small because everyone is shifted to work on the expansion until the last minute. So this time, we started making it quite a while ago to cover that, and Nakagawa (Mr. Masaki Nakagawa, Lead Battle Content Designer for FFXIV) put it together well. He put a lot of effort into creating the gimmicks, so more players than expected played it, and those who were playing it said, "It's fun to clear it."
--Mr. Sakaguchi (Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the FF series and known as an FFXIV player) also posted about how he was enjoying the game on social media.
Yoshida
I'm glad you enjoyed it (laughs). I intentionally included tradeable items as rewards, so that you would want to keep going back and forth, and I think that worked well. I've heard a lot of players say, "I don't want to do it every time, but I want you to implement more destruction content," so I hope to be able to respond to that request someday.

--Patch 7.1 also saw the implementation of "Another Future," but are there plans to add portraits as rewards in patch 7.2?
Yoshida
We have prepared it. The final design has been confirmed, and it is obviously going to be very flashy. Since it is based on the image of those two, it is quite full of "Chuunibyou feeling" (laughs).
--That's something to look forward to. I'll go into more detail later, but the next patch, 7.2, will also include new content such as "Crescent Isle: Mirage Island" and "Cosmo Explorer," and the 7.x series seems to offer a lot of new challenges overall.
