This Underrated Hack' n 'Slash Game Has Inspired Bayonetta On So Many Levels & No One Knows About It
The Shinobi series from Sega is an excellent illustration of why gamers have varied opinions about it. Sega hauled all of the greatest and worst qualities of that era and built a game to move into the future with it. Being a ninja, especially a swift and deadly one, is always cool. However, Nightshade brings back the punishing stages, scarce save locations, and maddening combat that inspires both delight and rage — and, no doubt, shattered joysticks!
Nightshade (Kunoichi or ‘Female Ninja’ - in Japanese) is a direct sequel to Sega’s previous installment called Shinobi. Despite not having much in common with the old games of the same name, it stayed true to the spirit of its action-packed forerunners. At first glance, the biggest distinction between Nightshade and Shinobi appears to be superficial. However, the creators improved on Shinobi's unique play mechanics, resulting in a game that is in many aspects even more demanding than its predecessor, which you might find hard to believe if you played Shinobi. The game was created by Masahide Kobayashi and was released for the PlayStation 2, back in 2003.
