Tuesday, August 20th. A dark day for nerds. Our experience, at least, was one disappointment after another as we heard the news.
Microsoft has "no plans" to bring any further first party games to other platforms - and right after the exiting news in the Indie World Direct that Ori and the Blind Forest is coming to the Switch. Does that mean we can't hope for Ori and the Will of the Wisps as well? Does that count as "first party"?
Nintendo is militantly killing YouTube channels that shared their music - which is entirely within their rights, but they show no signs of planning to monetize their music themselves. Are we simply to be deprived of so many excellent soundtracks, with no way to listen to them any further? We can only hope that this is a precursor to Nintendo rolling out their own service, but we aren't holding our breath; and losing so much good music is truly a thing to be mourned.
Finally, Sony. For us, this was the most upsetting of all - their failed negotiations with Disney leading to the threat that Spider-Man will be removed from the MCU, against the ironic backdrop of the screaming success that was Far From Home. We never wanted Peter Parker to get out of Tony Stark's shadow in THIS manner. In our opinion, this will gut both the MCU AND Spider-Man, because how do you just REMOVE something like that without a lame explanation that will do nothing but harm to both? These Spider-fans couldn't be more upset at the prospect. We can only hope they both go back to the table.
A dark day indeed. In the end, we can only try to console ourselves by hoping Nintendo's recent Mario summer tweet hints that they're bringing some Sunshine to the Switch. Gotta cope somehow.
