Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 – Gamebreaker Feature


ABOUT GAMEBREAKER
Gamebreaker, was a feature introduced in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06. It was a controversial feature because it essentially allowed for impossible golfing feats, such as drives up to 400 yards [25% extra distance] and when the pin is in range, Par 3 hole in ones, Par 4 Eagles, Par 5 Albatrosses and the sinking of long puts, is guaranteed. In one example, you can see me use Gamebreaker, to hit the ball nearly 500 Yards and in the right conditions, it would be possible, to exceed 500 yards.

Gamebreaker could not be used all the time, it was restricted by a gauge, in which the player had to fill by executing good shots. The better shots they played, the faster the meter filled up. It was also possible to loose charge by executing poor shots. Once the meter was full, it could only be used once and on use, the bar would completely drain empty again. It was only possible to use Gamebreaker 2 times per round, 3 on rare occasions. It was also possible for opponents to drain each others Gamebreaker bar at the cost of their own.

This is why Imo, Gamebreaker struck a balance between previous games, while also making the game more intensive. Previous games (2002-2005) had maxed out character drives of up to 337, up to 375 using a power boost. 06 took this down to a more realistic drive of 315, but compensated with Gamebreaker. Gamebreaker also offered struggling players, an opportunity to make a ‘gamebreaker’ when they needed it, not so much as in breaking the game.

This video demonstrates a range of examples, but there are other videos on YouTube, which demonstrates just how aggressive the Gamebreaker is when used, often causing the ball to bounce and roll in ways that defy any realistic physics. In that way, the feature was also a ‘gamebreaker’.
