Original Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall running on DosBOX is available on Steam for free, but very few people are brave enough to try and play it. If you're among those individuals ready to try, here's some tips how to set off on this journey with least pain involved.
First tip - cheating. In case you don't know where this exists, here's a link to Daggerfall cheats on the wiki:
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Cheats
Second tip - save often. Game is bug and corruption prone, you don't want to lose your progress.
Third tip - minimize the amount of hours that you're planning on spending in any one save file, try not to interact with bugged options in your game, keep your inventory small to avoid memory issues as much as possible. In this step in the video I discuss bugs.
Fourth tip - WIKI IS YOUR FRIEND. Daggerfall is a very cryptic game, so use the knowledge of those that went before you. Don't be afraid to google things.

Fifth tip - this is a whole category - building your character! Your race matters, a good racial goes a long way, dodge as a skill increases your chance of taking damage, because it is bugged, reflexes meter does not matter, but can make levelling harder for you, on the other hand taking Alteration, Mysticism, or Thaumaturgy can carry you a long way.
Sixth tip - switch your mouse to "view" mode, this will allow you to play Daggerfall more like it is a modern game instead of having to deal with tank controls. To access that, press escape, go to controls, click on "mouse" and then switch modes. Also map the "activate cursor" button on the regular controls section to something easy to remember, in case you do need to mouse over your screen at some point.
Seventh tip - get yourself in a guild! Guilds are quite important. Potion making, potion buying, even enchanting is gated behind that. Also, you can only rank up once a month, so even if you make rank up requirements, don't get scared if you don't get promoted, just try waiting in an inn for a while.
Eighth tip - be careful about waiting. Waiting is illegal in Daggerfall, if you need to wait, select the "loiter" option and don't abuse it. Make sure that you're doing majority of your things during working hours for the town, or else go rent an inn.
Ninth tip - getting a horse cuts down your travel time, having a wagon makes it easier to transport loot and earn money, get both as soon as you can. You can buy both off general store.
Tenth tip - your money has weight, store it in a bank, however remember that each region has its own banking system, so remind yourself where you stored your cash.
Eleventh tip - dungeons - the 3D map is hard to read, the generation sometimes can be awkward, so good luck with that. Dungeons are just hard to navigate sometimes! This is where two things come in handy - the first one is tracking the exit dot on your minimap versus your own dot and second, the ability to cheat and go through the dungeon's locations.
