In fact, 2D brawlers like this were especially popular on the console, which was starting to catch up to arcade performance—at least visually.
While home ports like this couldn’t always match the arcade’s raw power, they often made up for it with replayability. Extra scenes, bonus modes, and the ability to play co-op at home gave them lasting appeal. Home versions also tended to be rebalanced, making them more accessible—though that wasn’t always the case.
Turtles in Time features a plot that’s mostly just a backdrop for what the developers really wanted to showcase: a wild ride through the most popular themes of the era.
