Stou and I did a little sleuthing around and found the most common reasons World of Warcraft players unsubscribe despite having invested a large chunk of time into the game! Here's some cliff notes though:

"I'm bored"
-players eat content too fast
-harder content is not better content
-repetitive content is not better content


"community sucks"
-are players being assholes?
-or do they just suck at the game?
-reward system for good behaviors/interactions
-raid groups tend to fall apart
-why do we even have trash mobs?


"unbalanced PVP"
-new stuff coming in Legion


"the game was better when..."
-you're perfectly entitled to like X expansion more
-if you released a vanilla clone now, the game would fail


"i want the old talent system back"
-old talent system served no purpose
-everyone just copy/paste the "best build"
-even if you did an odd build, no guild would let you raid
