Touch-Based Strategy: Why the Studio Behind Civilization is Embracing Mobile
The studio behind some of the most storied - and complex - PC strategy titles is seriously embracing mobile platforms. Adam Sessler visited Firaxis Games and chatted with Sid Meieir, Studio Head Steve Martin, as well as developers Jake Solomon, Will Miller, and David McDonough to find out why.
Firaxis Games has built their reputation on turn-based strategy. From Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, to Civilization, to Pirates!, and to last year's XCOM: Enemy Unknown, they've been developing hardcore strategy titles - predominently for the PC - for 17 years. Now, they're looking seriously at a new platform: mobile. With Sid Meier's Ace Patrol and Haunted Hollow, Firaxis is proving that this new platform, which typically is considered a home for casual games, might work perfectly for their brand of strategy.
