Touhou 16.5: Violet Detector - Nightmare Diary (No-Death Cancels)
0:00 "The Nightmare One Has on Their Final Sunday"
0:49 Paper Sign "Zener Card Shuriken"
1:52 Paper Sign "Barrier-Enclosed Zener Card Shuriken"
3:24 Final Boss
The final scene removes your photo and Death Cancel abilities, you retain everything else but all you can really do is shoot down the other Sumireko with regular shots. Not a hard level though, mostly just a finale to the story.
Overall, I had fun with this game. It's no StB or DS but I don't think it's horrible or anything. Also, banger OST.
Janky controls aside I will say my one major gripe about VD is a lot of the Nightmare Week scenes can be kind of a drag and/or uninspired. Each Nightmare day contains one or two pairs of bosses with somewhat complimentary bullet patterns or themes for one or two scenes, and then the rest of the scenes are just mix-and-match between the four characters.
Sometimes you get something genuinely interesting, but most of the time it's horribly mismatched with both bosses just doing their own thing and shooting their standard pattern over each other. So you'll get scenes where the two patterns are so far removed from each other that it becomes ridiculously easy, and some scenes where the patterns combine into this super overtuned mess.
Speaking of, yeah each boss basically only has their one standard pattern + a rage phase of it for when you defeat the other boss first, and they just reuse it for every scene they're a part of. For some scenes you'll get a slight variation of it but... yeah. This aspect of the game is really not the greatest.
