Touhou 20 FW demo once cc. Reimu green normal mode (Fossilized Wonders)
13Mixed thoughts overall (leaning towards positive),played for about 53 minutes.
Positives:
1. Replays,scoring and retry button are back. This is good for more replayability (scoring),efficiency in saving runs (replays),and restarting runs (retry button).
2. Music is pretty good.Drumkit sounds neat.
3.Spellcards are mostly fun.
Neutral:
1 (and 2?).Parts of stages can be routed easily,other parts can`t (enemies showing up in a quick alternating fashion). A few enemies are extremely tanky,and its an actual problem.
The reason why the boomer complaint in the past (Hidden star,Wily beast and UM) was wrong,is because those games` gimmick would override tankiness in most situations (invulnerablity, bullet clear,extra dmg).So,unless you were at low power, or doing an more restrictive LNN,you were mostly fine.
However, this game`s gimmick is weaker than those.
3.I do not get this game`s gimmick (mostly).
4.General fan game feel.
Negative:
1.Spellcard backgrounds maybe ai-generated,allegedly .Although ZUN uses royalty free images (in the backgrounds),so this is most likely an mistake. EDIT: There are two images which maybe AI,first is used on the ground floor (STG 3 near pyramid),the second is hard to see where it is. Either spellcard background or stg 2 background.
EDIT 2: Much more textures may have ai generated.This less likely an mistake,and more likely intentional.
Additional edit:it maybe even more images are ai generated.Also,ZUN uses chatgpt,no info about image generation.
2. New character designs` lack visual depth.
3. Pyramids are turbo cringe. Basically imagine TH12`s ufos,but they fight back.While not directly tied resources, you get the Pyramid resources,as you get other stone resources at the same time (I think).Also,for whatever reason,they can spawn during boss fights.COOL! I LOVE RNG!!!!!1!!! I LOVE OVER LAPPING PATTERNS !!111!!!! (sarcasm).According to an translation,apparently spawning during boss fights is intentional. HUH?!
So long as 1 and 3 (negative) are fixed,Fossilized Wonders should be an good game.If not than its mediocre.
EDIT 3:Due to edit 2,if there is no removal of the potential ai slop,than do not give this game your money when it releases in full.
